The initial edition of the database is an outcome of the 24-month TUBITAK funded (109K517) project, KAYAPRO, carried out under the management of Özyeğin University. The project, which resulted in this database, serves as the Turkish representative of the EU-supported COST action: "Women Writers in History: Toward a New Understanding of European Literary Culture." It focuses on the literature produced by women since the 16th century in order to question whether there is a "canon of women's literature" in Turkey." In order to question the denominators that is suggestive of a canon, we examined the sociological and cultural positions of our women writers, their levels of education and the economic statuses of their families. This profile research is a first in the context of Turkish literature. The trilingual (Turkish, English, French), electronic database we constructed aims at increasing both the potential of national and international research and the citation numbers to such research by making visible on the internet the biographies and the bibliographic details on those biographies. The results of the project were announced in Istanbul, at the "Transnational Perspectives on 19th and 20th Century Women's Writing" workshop on 27 September 2012.
